About

Heidi Chesterman is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Hawkes Bay, inspired by the beauty, colours, and movements of the ocean. Her artistic journey began in 2013 during a graduate visa exchange in Hawaii, where she discovered a love for surf art. Yet her connection to the sea stretches back to childhood—collecting shells, stones, and driftwood from the beach for her mother. Today, she channels that lifelong fascination into creating unique, heartfelt treasures that reflect both the serenity and energy of the ocean.
Rooted in her love of surfing and the natural world, Heidi’s art incorporates materials such as pāua, shells, river stones, greenstone, and glass. She crafts vibrant mosaics and mixed media pieces that capture landscapes and ocean-inspired forms. Many people say they feel a sense of calm and beauty when surrounded by her creations—a reflection of the care and passion she pours into each piece.
Heidi’s works have been commissioned and displayed throughout New Zealand, and her art has found homes in Australia, the United States, and Belgium. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully made to be cherished for generations.
